The Various Ministries of Brooke Road
United Methodist Church:
Acolyte: The lighting of the alter candles is a symbol of Jesus coming into the presence of the worshipping community. An acolyte can be a youth or an adult. The Acolyte is an important participant in the worship service by lighting and extinguishing the candles.
Back Yard Mission Team: A volunteer team that does house repair and basic tasks for those in need in our neighborhood.
Music Ministry: The music ministry consists of three choirs.
Celebration Choir: Lead the Contemporary Service held at 9:00am
each Sunday.
Traditional Choir: Lead the Traditional Service held at 10:35am
each Sunday. This choir sings an anthem at each service.
Kidz Praize: Sings and plays bells on some Sundays and for special
events.
Christian Education: Responsible for planning and implementing education programs for the entire church family

CDO is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30AM to 1:30PM
The teaching staff is caring & experienced. They provide nurturing & structured atmosphere where our students can learn & grow. Our dynamic curriculum provides many opportunities for children to gain skills necessary to start kindergarten successfully.
$50.00/month for one day per week
$95.00/month for two days per week
*Your child doesn't need to be potty trained"
Council: The church council is the governing body of the church. It is made up of church officers and representatives of each ministry.
Diabetes Group: The group provides information in an informal setting to discuss concerns related to diabetes management. It serves those who have any type of diabetes, might get diabetes or interested in diabetes.
Meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm.
Finance: Responsible for disbursing and managing funds required for our ministries.
GLBT: Reconciling Journey of Rockford is an affirming study and monthly fellowship for gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, and transgendered Christians, allies, and those seeking to explore a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Meets the fourth Sunday of each month at 6:30pm.
GLBTQ persons and Allies of all faiths are welcome as well as those wishing to explore the love that God has for you just as you are.
Greeter: Three greeter serve before the 10:35am service each Sunday. Greeters greet each person as they enter the narthex. Information about the service, nursery, & other amenities can be shared.
Hepatitis C Support: The main goal of this ministry is to offer support to those infected with hepatitis C virus and their loved ones.
Jubilee Center: Consists of providing a Sunday meal at Jubilee Center in downtown Rockford for the homeless and those living with severe mental disorders. Members of Brooke Road serve a meal during the Christmas/New Year season.
Liturgist: Each Sunday at the 10:35am Worship Service, a person assists the pastor with assigned readings.
Mission Trip Ministry: Mission trip to Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission, SD. Every two years, next trip 2009.
Sacred Threads:
Sound Tech: Provide set up of microphones, monitors, etc. as required by the music minister, pastor, contemporary worship director or staff. Sound techs monitor sound, activate microphones and play appropriate music and CDs. Sound Techs may be asked to run sound/music for special events, such as weddings and funerals.
Thirft Shop: Located in the lower level of Brooke Road Church.
Open every Wednesday from 9:00am - 12:00pm. It is run by volunteers.
UMW (United Methodist Women): Meets once a month. Open to any women of the church. The mission of UMW is to provide fellowship and serve the church. Activities include:
- Coordinate funeral luncheons.
- 2 fundraisers : Corn Beef & Cabbage Dinner & Turkey Dinner
- Coordinate the food for the yearly rummage sale & Summerfest
- Provides papergoods & financial support for the church.
- Provides financial support for other organizations.
- Make & send valentines to our Seniors every year.
- Attend yearly women's retreats.
UMM (United Methodist Men): Meets the second Sunday of each month for breakfast at 7:30am. The mission of UMM is to provide fellowship and serve the church. Activities include:
- Take part in
service projects for the church such as lawn
maintenance in summer & fall. - Assisting UMW with dinners.
- Help with Flea Market & Summerfest
- Meet with other
UMM in the Rockford district- Communion
breakfasts & retreats.
Ushering: Help greet people each Sunday & ensure that their worship experience is comfortable & meaningful. Ushers assist by distributing bulletins, making sure those with hearing difficulties are offered portable hearing enhancement devices, taking the offering and directing & assisting with communion.
Witness Committee: Invites
people to come to Brooke Road United Church to hear and learn about
the grace & glory of Jesus Christ.
Activities include:
- Delivering mugs to first time visitors
- Calling those who have fallen away
- Assisting with "Bring a Friend Sundays"
- Calling and/or visiting shut-ins
- Bringing new people to our congregation
- Contacting new families who have moved into our area
